The Walworth and Racine/Kenosha/Milwaukee County Farm Service Agency, along with Kenosha and Racine County UW-Extension, is hosting a Dairy Margin Protection Program (MPP) informational meeting on Monday, May 7 from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Walworth County Government Center, 100 W. Walworth St. Room 214, Elkhorn, WI 53121. The meeting will include a presentation by Mark Stephenson, PhD, the Director of Dairy Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The Bipartisan Budget Act was signed into law in Feb. and includes substantial changes to MPP-Dairy for the 2018 coverage year, including a new signup period for 2018. The informational meeting will cover changes to the program, production history, coverage levels, premiums and the MPP-Dairy Decision Tool. All dairy producers are encouraged to attend.
All dairy operations must make new coverage elections for 2018, even if the operation was enrolled during the previous 2018 signup period. Coverage elections made for 2018 will be retroactive to Jan. 1, 2018. All dairy operations interested in MPP coverage must sign up during the enrollment period and submit form CCC-782 to enroll. Dairy operations may still “opt out” by not submitting a form. The enrollment period runs from April 9, 2018 to June 1, 2018.
The meeting is free and open to all producers. Please contact (262) 723-3216 or (262) 878-3353 if you have any questions regarding the meeting.
Additional meetings have been scheduled in April and May throughout Wisconsin. To find a current listing, visit https://www.fsa.usda.gov/state-offices/Wisconsin/state-events/index.
