What are Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets?

What do children need in order to grow up and succeed? Search Institute researchers have identified specific, practical things that can have a lasting positive impact on children. Rather than focus on problems, the researchers’ work concentrates on developmental assets-positive things that all young people need. The assets are 40 building blocks that help children make wise decisions and choose positive lifestyles. Research on 6th to 12th graders has shown that the more of these assets young people experience, the better.
