“Learning to Eat Better, For Less”

The Racine Kenosha Nutrition Education Program (RKNEP) is a program of The Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program (WNEP).  WNEP is a major educational program within the UW-Extension-Cooperative Extension Family Living Programs. The mission of the Family Living Programs is to respond to community needs with research-based education and partnerships that support Wisconsin families and communities.  Our programs are designed to enrich families and strengthen communities.

Who can participate in the Racine Kenosha Nutrition Education Program (RKNEP)?

  • Anyone who receives FoodShare (food stamps) or is eligible to receive FoodShare can learn through RKNEP.
  • Organizations and schools where at least 50% of the population receives FoodShare or free/reduced lunch.
  • Our Eating Smart, Being Active classes are offered to limited-income parents with young children.

What do RKNEP Nutrition Educators teach?

The nutrition education program helps parents, senior adults, and children:

  • plan and prepare nutritious and tasty meals and snacks based on the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the MyPyramid food guide.
  • save money at the grocery store.
  • keep food safe to eat and prevent waste.
  • increase their physical activity as recommended in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
  • make healthy food choices.
  • use other community resources.

Where do RKNEP Nutrition Educators teach?

RKNEP nutrition educators live in the community and understand the needs of families. We work with schools and community organizations and teach about nutrition in a variety of ways:

  • Small and large group workshops;
  • Home visits;
  • Learn-while-you-wait exhibits.
