Soil Testing

UW Soils Lab

Garden soil should be tested every three to five years, or before starting a new garden. Information and testing instructions are online at http://uwlab.soils.wisc.edu. Soil samples can be sent in a new sandwich-size zip top plastic bag. An “official” soil test bag is not necessary. You can mail samples directly to the lab in Marshfield, WI. Test results and recommendations are sent via email or postal service in about two weeks.

If you prefer, soil test kits with instructions and a bag may be picked up at the Kenosha County UW-Extension office in the Kenosha County Center (19600 75th Street, Bristol, corner Hwy 50 and Hwy 45), by calling the garden helpline at (262) 857-1942, or emailing master.gardeners@kenoshacounty.org.
