2012 Rural Landowner Conference
The 6th Annual Southeast Wisconsin Rural Landowner Conference scheduled for Saturday November 3 will offer opportunities for rural landowners and small farmers and well as individuals who are considering a farm enterprise.
Workshop tracts include a small farm tract that will focus primarily on growing fruit crops. Growing strawberries, raspberries, apples and pears will be discussed in addition to a session on beginning beekeeping. The conservation tract will focus on starting a prairie, invasive species control and will include a panel of local, state and federal government agencies representatives and their programs. The entrepreneurial tract will offer education on marketing options for small farms including starting a Community Supported Agriculture and selling at farmers markets. A session on selling to customers from your farm will also be offered as well as growing mushrooms and a session on how to use uncommon vegetables.
The program will be held on Saturday November 3, 2012 at the Kenosha County Center in Bristol and will run from 8:00 am -3:00 pm. Costs for the program are $20/person and $15 for youth between the ages of 14 and 18. Costs increase by $5 after the October 26 early bird deadline. Lunch will be included with the registration fee.
